NBA Expands in Abu Dhabi

The National Basketball Association (NBA) and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) have announced a massive expansion of their existing partnership. This multi-year deal aims to transform the UAE capital into the premier destination for basketball in the Middle East.

Key Pillars of the Agreement:

  • NBA Global Academy: Abu Dhabi will now host the league’s flagship international elite training center. This year-round academic and athletic program will serve top high school prospects from the UAE, the Middle East, and across the globe.
  • NBA Global Games: The city will continue to host pre-season games, bringing the stars of the NBA directly to Emirati fans.
  • Youth Development: The academy will include specific programs for 20 local boys, initiatives for local girls, and a residential program for 24 international prospects.
  • Elite Tournaments: The capital will host two annual tournaments featuring the world’s best youth and elite players, building on the success of the 2025 NBA Academy Showcase.

Strategic Impact

For Abu Dhabi, this is about more than just sports; it is a move to diversify the economy and inspire the local community. For the NBA, it’s a vital step in scouting global talent and expanding its commercial footprint in an increasingly influential market.
