Valencia CF has moved a step closer to completing its long-delayed stadium project, the Nou Mestalla, after reaching an agreement with the city of Valencia to support its development and future use.
Under the arrangement, the club will retain responsibility for financing the stadium, while the municipality will contribute €11.3 million and gain usage rights as part of a broader partnership tied to the Benicalap sports complex. The agreement is designed to position the venue as a multi-purpose asset for both football and large-scale events.
The stadium is currently scheduled to open in summer 2027, marking the culmination of a project that has undergone multiple delays and redesigns over the years. Once completed, the Nou Mestalla is expected to serve not only as Valencia CF’s home ground but also as a regional hub for international events.
The venue is being developed with ambitions beyond domestic football. It is being considered as a potential host for major fixtures such as UEFA competition finals, including the UEFA Champions League Final, UEFA Europa League Final, and UEFA Nations League Final, as well as matches during the FIFA World Cup 2030, which Spain will co-host alongside Portugal and Morocco.
Beyond football, the stadium is expected to accommodate athletics events, particularly road races such as marathons and half-marathons, as well as concerts and other large-scale entertainment programming, reflecting a broader trend toward multi-use stadium infrastructure.
The project has been designed by Fenwick Iribarren Architects, who were involved in several stadiums used during the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. Construction will be carried out by FCC Construcción, a firm with experience delivering major venues such as Atlético Madrid’s Riyadh Air Metropolitano and Espanyol’s RCDE Stadium.
If completed on schedule, the Nou Mestalla would mark a significant infrastructure milestone for Valencia CF, aligning the club’s long-term sporting and commercial ambitions with the city’s broader strategy to attract major international events.
