Czech star Linda Noskova captured her first Grand Slam title by defeating compatriot Karolina Muchova 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 in the 2026 Wimbledon women’s singles final.
The 21-year-old overcame a dramatic second-set collapse, during which she failed to convert five championship points, before regaining control in the deciding set to secure the biggest victory of her career. It was only Noskova’s second appearance on Wimbledon’s iconic Centre Court.
With the victory, Noskova collected the $4.8 million (£3.6 million) champion’s prize, while Muchova, who was playing in her second Grand Slam final, received $2.4 million (£1.8 million) as the runner-up.
Ten different champions in ten years
Noskova’s triumph extended Wimbledon’s remarkable streak of producing 10 different women’s singles champions in the last 10 years.
The ninth seed defeated five seeded opponents on her way to the title and joined an elite group of Czech Wimbledon champions that includes Jan Kodes on the men’s side and Martina Navratilova, Jana Novotna, Petra Kvitova, Marketa Vondrousova, and Barbora Krejcikova among the women.
An emotional Noskova thanked her mother during the trophy ceremony, saying she would not have reached the moment without her support.
Muchova, meanwhile, congratulated her compatriot with a touch of humor, jokingly calling Noskova her “ex-friend” before adding, “I’m kidding.” She praised the new champion for the way she handled her first Grand Slam final and said the title was thoroughly deserved.
