PCB Secures Record Breaking PSL International Media Rights Deal With Walee

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a landmark agreement with marketing platform Walee Technologies for the international media rights of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The winning bid reflects a staggering 146% increase in valuation compared to the 2025 season, setting a new commercial benchmark for the competition.

Expansion Drives Triple Digit Growth

The record-breaking fee is largely attributed to the PSL’s new expanded format. The 2026 edition (PSL 11) will be the first to feature eight teams instead of six, resulting in an extended 44-game schedule running from March 26 to May 3.

“The continued rise in international media rights value reflects the collective efforts to position the PSL as a globally recognized property,” stated PSL CEO Salman Naseer. While Walee Technologies secured the global rights, one major market remains conspicuously absent: India.

Geopolitical Tensions Cast a Shadow

The rights agreement explicitly excludes India due to the severe diplomatic and military fallout between the two nations following the events of May 2025. The ongoing feud has led to significant disruptions in the cricket calendar:

  • World Cup Boycott: Pakistan has announced its intention to boycott its fixture against India at the upcoming T20 World Cup.
  • Neutral Venues: The tournament will be co-hosted in Sri Lanka as Pakistan refuses to travel to Indian soil.
  • Regional Stability: The exclusion follows a period of heightened tension and military actions initiated after the Pahalgam attack in 2025.

Despite the regional instability, the PSL’s commercial trajectory remains upward. The league continues its long-term title sponsorship with HBL, which is set to run through 2027, ensuring financial stability amidst a volatile political landscape.
