Nike appoints Kristin Bauer as Converse chief operating officer

Nike has appointed Kristin Bauer as chief operating officer of Converse, bringing an experienced supply chain executive into a key leadership role as the sneaker brand navigates one of the most challenging periods in its recent history.

Bauer will take up the position on September 14 and report directly to Nike chief operating officer Venky Alagirisamy. She joins Converse after nearly three years as chief supply chain officer at Foot Locker, which is in the process of being acquired by Dick’s Sporting Goods.

The appointment comes as pressure mounts on Nike to revive Converse. The brand’s revenue fell 32% in Nike’s most recently reported quarter, raising fresh questions over its long-term position within the company’s portfolio.

Before joining Foot Locker, Bauer held senior supply chain and logistics positions at TJX Companies and Ulta Beauty.

Founded in 1908 and acquired by Nike in 2003, Converse remains one of the most recognisable brands in the global footwear industry. However, shifting consumer preferences, the rise of performance-inspired footwear and rapidly changing fashion trends have put pressure on the brand’s traditional sneaker business.

Bauer’s appointment marks another step in Nike’s broader effort to strengthen its brand portfolio and return Converse to growth.
