Atlanta Braves Reclaim Media Rights with Launch of BravesVision Streaming and Broadcast Network

The Atlanta Braves unveil BravesVision and Braves.TV, reclaiming full oversight of their local media distribution for the 2026 MLB season.

In a landmark shift for the franchise’s commercial strategy, the Atlanta Braves have officially unveiled BravesVision, a dedicated multimedia platform that will serve as the exclusive local home for the team starting with the 2026 season. The move grants the organization “full oversight” of its media product, effectively decoupling the team from the crumbling traditional RSN model that has plagued MLB in recent years.

The venture is a comprehensive hybrid model. BravesVision will be distributed via traditional cable and satellite providers, but its heartbeat lies in Braves.TV—a direct-to-consumer streaming service. Additionally, for the second consecutive year, the team is partnering with Gray Media to ensure games remain available over-the-air, reaching a massive footprint across six Southeastern states.

Returning to the “Turner Era” Blueprint

The move is a spiritual return to the franchise’s roots. For decades, the Braves were “America’s Team” because their ownership also controlled the airwaves through WTBS. Braves President and CEO Derek Schiller noted the importance of this historical link, stating, “This endeavor will bring the most vital link to our fanbase back under the control of our organization.”

By producing over 140 games in-house, alongside extensive pre- and post-game programming, the Braves are betting that they can monetize their content more effectively than a third-party broadcaster. The control over production, sales, and marketing allows the team to integrate sponsors directly into the broadcast experience—a strategy mirrored by the Marseille/SAYTV deal in Europe and the MLB/TikTok global partnership.

Analysis: The Death of the Middleman

The launch of BravesVision is a case study in the “direct-to-fan” evolution of sports business. By cutting out the RSN middleman:

  • The Revenue Gap: While the Braves lose a guaranteed rights fee, they gain 100% of the ad inventory and subscription revenue from Braves.TV.
  • National Presence: National broadcasts will remain untouched, with the Braves continuing their presence on Fox, ESPN, TBS, Apple TV+, and NBCU.
  • Innovative Delivery: Schiller suggested that BravesVision will allow for “new and innovative” ways to present the game, likely hinting at interactive betting features and multi-angle viewing options popularized in the tech-heavy NBA and MLS markets.

The Braves are coming off a disappointing 2025 campaign where they missed the postseason, but the launch of this network ensures that when they take the field against the Kansas City Royals on March 27, the team will be in total control of its own narrative.
