Puma and Borussia Dortmund have unveiled a special edition jersey for the 2025/26 season to mark the 100th anniversary of the historic Rote Erde stadium.
The kit pays tribute to the iconic venue, which opened a century ago and sits next to Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund. Once the home stadium of the club’s professional team, Rote Erde now hosts matches for Borussia Dortmund’s U23 side, the women’s team and local athletics clubs.
Design inspired by the stadium’s history
The commemorative shirt reflects the stadium’s heritage through a modern reinterpretation of classic design elements.
It features a black base colour combined with beige accents, while a subtle tone-on-tone graphic inspired by the stadium’s running track extends across the collar, sleeves and back.
An embossed pattern referencing the venue’s historic entrance gates is also included, while a sandstone-coloured finish nods to the stadium’s distinctive architectural style.
Marco Mueller, senior director of product line management performance apparel at Puma, said the design aimed to capture the club’s deep-rooted identity.
According to Mueller, Borussia Dortmund’s identity has been shaped by the stadiums, paths and traditions that defined the club’s history.
Stadium remains a symbolic home for the club
Kerstin Zerbe, managing director of BVB Merchandising GmbH, emphasised the emotional significance of the venue for the club and its supporters.
She described Rote Erde as one of the most defining places in Borussia Dortmund’s history, representing a sense of home where the club’s values have been expressed for decades.
Jersey to debut in Bundesliga match
The special kit will make its on-field debut during Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga home match against Hamburger SV on March 21, 2026.
A day later, the club’s women’s team will also wear the jersey during a home match at Rote Erde stadium.
“Century match†to celebrate the stadium
Another highlight of the anniversary celebrations will take place on March 25, when Borussia Dortmund legends will face a Benfica legends team at Rote Erde.
The event commemorates Dortmund’s historic 5–0 victory over Benfica in 1963, one of the landmark moments in the club’s early European history.
Replica and authentic versions available
The anniversary jersey will be available in both replica and authentic versions.
The authentic edition incorporates Puma’s ULTRAWEAVE technology, designed to deliver a lighter and performance-focused construction, while both versions feature dryCELL technology for moisture control.
As part of Puma’s RE:FIBRE sustainability initiative, the jersey is also made from at least 95% recycled materials.
