Apple is expanding its footprint in endurance sports, announcing a new partnership with the London Marathon — one of the most prominent races on the global calendar.
As part of the agreement, Apple will power the event’s official race application through its Apple Fitness ecosystem and the Apple Watch, integrating performance tracking with real-time data access for both runners and spectators.
The app is designed to serve dual purposes. Participants will be able to monitor key performance metrics throughout the race, while viewers can follow athletes live, adding a layer of connectivity that has become increasingly central to mass-participation events.
The partnership extends across all races organized by London Marathon Events, embedding Apple’s technology into one of the most visible platforms in distance running.
From a commercial standpoint, the move reflects Apple’s broader strategy: positioning its hardware and services not just as consumer products, but as essential tools within the sports and health ecosystem.
By aligning with a World Marathon Major, Apple gains access to a global audience that spans elite competition and recreational participation — a combination that few sporting events can offer at scale.
In that sense, the deal is less about branding and more about behavior.
Because in endurance sports, once an athlete builds their routine around a platform, they tend to stay there.
