Premier League Extends Away Ticket Price Cap Until 2028

Premier League clubs have agreed to extend the £30 cap on away ticket prices for an additional two seasons, ensuring the policy remains in place until 2028.

The agreement, now set to run for 12 consecutive seasons, continues one of the league’s most fan-friendly initiatives, originally introduced in 2016 to make attending away matches more affordable.

Boosting Away Fan Attendance

Since the introduction of the cap, away attendance has significantly increased—from 82% to 91% stadium occupancy—highlighting the impact of accessible pricing on fan engagement.

In an official statement, the Premier League emphasized the importance of traveling supporters:
“Away fans help create the incredible atmosphere Premier League matches are known for. The cap has played a key role in increasing away attendances.”

The league also acknowledged the additional financial burden fans face when traveling across the country to support their teams.

A Model for Other Leagues

The initiative has drawn attention beyond England. AC Milan has previously proposed a similar system for Serie A, where discussions are ongoing, including the formation of a dedicated commission to evaluate ticket pricing reforms.

Fan-Centric Strategy

By maintaining the price cap, the Premier League reinforces its commitment to fan accessibility while preserving one of its defining features: vibrant, high-energy atmospheres fueled by traveling supporters.

As matchday revenue models evolve, this decision signals that balancing commercial growth with fan experience remains a priority for one of the world’s most influential football leagues.
