Movistar Plus+ Secures 2026 WorldWCR Rights:

In a move that solidifies its commitment to the evolving landscape of women’s sports, Movistar Plus+ has officially renewed its broadcast agreement for the FIM Women’s Motorcycling World Championship (WorldWCR) for the 2026 season.

The Spanish audiovisual giant, owned by Telefónica, will continue its partnership with Dorna Sports and the FIM, ensuring that all six rounds of the championship remain a fixture on its dedicated sports channel, Vamos por M+.

The Multi-Platform Approach

While the financial specifics of the deal remain undisclosed, the broadcast strategy for 2026 reveals a significant push for global accessibility. In a dual-track approach, the WorldWCR will not only be available via Movistar’s premium subscription service but will also continue to be streamed live and for free on YouTube worldwide.

This “hybrid” distribution model is designed to maximize the sport’s commercial reach during its critical growth phase, allowing Dorna to build a global fanbase while providing Movistar with premium, localized content for the Spanish market—a territory where women’s motorcycling enjoys high domestic interest.

Season Stakes and Spanish Dominance

The 2026 campaign is set to be a showcase of European circuits, kicking off this weekend at the Algarve International Circuit in Portugal. The calendar consists of six rounds, each featuring a double-race format, concluding with the season finale in Jerez from October 16-18.

From a competitive standpoint, the series remains heavily influenced by Spanish talent. Of the 25 riders on the grid, seven are Spanish, including the defending world champion, María Herrera. For Movistar Plus+, the presence of a dominant local champion like Herrera provides a vital narrative hook to drive viewership and subscriber engagement on Vamos.

Building the MotoGP Ecosystem

The WorldWCR, launched as a support category within the MotoGP and WorldSBK ecosystem, is a central pillar of Dorna’s long-term sustainability and diversity strategy. By securing a major broadcaster like Movistar Plus+ for another year, the championship ensures it maintains a “Big Media” presence alongside its digital-first social media strategy.
