The professional softball landscape just got a major wardrobe upgrade.
Athletes Unlimited (AU) and Adidas have officially inked a multi-year partnership, designating the three-stripe brand as the exclusive on-field apparel and footwear provider for the Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL). Starting with the 2026 season on June 9, Adidas will outfit all six of the league’s newly minted city-based franchises.
This isn’t just a jersey deal; it’s a strategic takeover of the softball “pipeline.”
The Strategic “Pipeline” Play
Adidas is effectively surrounding the sport of softball. By adding the AUSL to its portfolio, the German sportswear giant now owns the journey of a softball player from start to finish. From grassroots Little League partnerships to high-profile NIL deals with NCAA stars, Adidas is securing the pro level as the final piece of the puzzle.
“This partnership marks an acceleration of our investment in women’s sports,†said John Miller, President of Adidas North America. “Together, we are actively shaping the future of softball to establish new benchmarks.â€
From Touring to City-Based Franchises
The deal arrives at a pivotal moment for the AUSL. After a breakout 2025 season, the league has abandoned its original touring model in favor of permanent city-based franchises. This shift creates a more traditional “home-team” loyalty for fans—and a more lucrative merchandising opportunity for Adidas.
The league already boasts a star-studded roster of Adidas brand ambassadors, including Sis Bates, Tiare Jennings, and Amanda Lorenz, who will now wear the brand both as individuals and as part of their team identities.
Media Momentum on ESPN and ABC
The Adidas announcement is bolstered by a significant three-year broadcast extension with ESPN.
- The Volume: 50 exclusive games will air annually across ESPN platforms.
- The Big Stage: A marquee matchup is set for a national debut on ABC in July 2026.
This broadcast reach ensures that the Adidas-designed uniforms and footwear will get maximum “eyeballs” during prime-time slots, further elevating the commercial viability of the league.
