Barcelona Launches Valorant Team

BARCELONA – FC Barcelona has announced a significant expansion of its digital sports division with the creation of its first-ever all-female eSports team. The squad will compete in the Valorant Game Changers League, reinforcing the club’s “Més que un Club” (More than a Club) philosophy through a commitment to gender equality and inclusion in gaming.

The Roster and Ambitions

The new team is comprised of five experienced professionals, including two standout Turkish players, with the ultimate goal of qualifying for the Valorant Game Changers Championship (the world finals).

  • The Lineup: Maria “Toki” Pérez (Captain), Alba “Annie” García, Paula “Devilasa” Blanco, and Turkish stars Eylül “miyori” Sarıoğlu and İlayda “Lyda” Güzeldere.
  • Coaching: The staff will be led by former professional player Fabián “Quick” Pereira.

Strategic Context: eSports and the Olympics

The launch comes at a time of shifting dynamics in the global eSports landscape. While the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently ended its specific partnership with Saudi Arabia regarding the “eSports Olympics,” the organization remains committed to a new, sustainable model for a dedicated Olympic eSports event. Barcelona’s move positions the club to be a key player in this evolving ecosystem.

Why Valorant?

By entering the Game Changers circuit, Barcelona is tapping into one of the most successful diversity initiatives in eSports history. Developed by Riot Games, this circuit provides high-level competitive opportunities for women and marginalized genders, attracting major traditional sports brands looking to reach a younger, diverse demographic.
