BMO Field has completed a major redevelopment ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, positioning itself as a key host venue in Canada.
The C$157.9 million upgrade increases the stadium’s capacity to 45,000 seats for the tournament.
Capacity Boost Completed
The redevelopment includes 17,000 temporary seats, raising capacity from 28,000 to 45,000.
These additions will be removed after the tournament.
Six Matches Scheduled
The venue—renamed Toronto Stadium during the event—will host six matches, including group-stage and knockout games.
It joins BC Place as Canada’s World Cup venues.
Infrastructure Fully Upgraded
Phase two works focused on tournament readiness.
Upgrades include a new pitch, enhanced player areas, hospitality zones, and broadcast infrastructure aligned with FIFA standards.
Fan Experience Enhanced
Earlier improvements delivered new videoboards, lighting, audio systems, and expanded food and lounge areas.
Accessibility and connectivity upgrades were also prioritized.
Legacy Improvements Secured
Permanent additions include Wi-Fi infrastructure, premium seating, improved concourses, and upgraded fan amenities.
These enhancements are expected to deliver long-term value beyond the tournament.
Public-Private Investment Model
The project was funded by the City of Toronto and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment.
The stadium is home to Toronto FC and Toronto Argonauts.
