The German Bundesliga has significantly strengthened its ties with the Middle East by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UAE Pro League. This landmark agreement, centered on the launch of an official Bundesliga Academy in Abu Dhabi, marks a strategic shift toward long-term football development in the region.
High-Level Diplomatic Support The partnership was formalized during an official state visit, witnessed by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. This high-level endorsement underscores the agreement’s importance beyond the pitch, touching on technical expertise, broadcasting, and commercial strategy.
Focus on Youth Development The core of the partnership is the Bundesliga UAE Academy, located at the newly opened Sport X Domes facility in Abu Dhabi. Developed with local partner Target Global Sports, the academy will implement the Bundesliga’s renowned youth training philosophy.
Peer Naubert, CEO of Bundesliga International, stated: “By launching a Bundesliga Academy in Abu Dhabi, we establish a permanent presence and demonstrate a long-term commitment to developing football at every level in the MENA region.”
A Growing Ecosystem This move follows the recent opening of a dedicated Bundesliga regional office in Abu Dhabi. With the league now being the fastest-growing European league in the region—supported by a broadcast deal with MBC Group and a new Arabic Instagram channel (@BundesligaAR)—the academy will serve as a hub for the “Bundesliga Dream” pathway, offering elite players exposure to German football.
Abdullah Nasser Al Junaibi, Chairman of the UAE Pro League, hailed the deal as a “foundation for meaningful collaboration,” further bridging the sports culture between Germany and the United Arab Emirates.
