In its ongoing push to expand beyond traditional sports boundaries, DAZN has secured the Spanish broadcast rights for the American 7’s Football League—a faster, stripped-down version of American football that trades helmets and shoulder pads for speed and raw physicality.
The deal, whose financial terms remain undisclosed, will see DAZN stream the league free-to-air starting this week. The A7FL season runs from March through July, with DAZN focusing on a featured game each week while also making all matchups available live and on-demand at no cost.
Fewer Players, Faster Game
The A7FL’s formula is simple: seven players per side, no protective gear, and fewer stoppages. The result is a more continuous, high-intensity product, with games typically lasting between two and two-and-a-half hours—shorter and more digestible than traditional formats.
That positions the league as a potential alternative to the National Football League, where extended breaks and three-hour broadcasts have increasingly tested the patience of younger audiences. A7FL leans into immediacy—more action, less downtime.
Building a Multi-Tier Football Ecosystem
This move is not happening in isolation. DAZN has already been investing in American football across multiple levels. It previously streamed over 100 games from the European League of Football in 2025 and continues to carry NFL content on its platform.
By adding A7FL, DAZN is quietly building a layered ecosystem: premium (NFL), developmental (ELF), and alternative (A7FL). It’s a portfolio designed not just for existing fans, but for new audiences looking for a different kind of sports experience.
The Bigger Strategy: Free Access, Wider Reach
At the core of this deal is DAZN’s evolving distribution strategy—using free content to expand its user base. The approach echoes its 2025 agreement with FIFA for the Club World Cup, where accessibility was prioritized over immediate monetization.
A7FL fits neatly into that model. It’s not just about rights acquisition—it’s about experimenting with how sports are consumed in an era of shorter attention spans and platform-driven viewing habits.
Bottom line: DAZN isn’t just adding another league. It’s betting that the future of sports consumption may look faster, leaner, and far less traditional—and A7FL might be one of its boldest tests yet.
