The 2025 FIBA Men’s EuroBasket has delivered a significant boost to the European sports economy, generating a total impact of €283.6 million, according to a comprehensive study by Nielsen Sports and FIBA Europe. The tournament, co-hosted by Latvia, Finland, Cyprus, and Poland, showcased a substantial increase in both economic and media value compared to previous editions.

According to the report released on February 23, 2026, the economic impact reached €218.9 million, bolstered by €63.1 million in media value and €2.1 million in social impact. After deducting the environmental impact evaluated at €567,000, the final balance remains record-breaking for the sport.

Host City Performance

Riga, Latvia, emerged as the primary beneficiary of the tournament, securing €159.2 million in total returns after hosting 31 matches. Other host cities also saw significant gains:

  • Tampere (Finland): €68.2 million
  • Limassol (Cyprus): €33.6 million
  • Katowice (Poland): €22.6 million

Digital and Media Surge

The competition reached a cumulative TV audience of 650 million, a 115% increase from the 2022 edition. The digital growth was even more pronounced, with 9.28 billion impressions recorded across social media platforms, primarily driven by Instagram—a 109% surge in digital engagement.

Total attendance reached 445,909 spectators, with unique visitors spending an average of nearly four matches each, proving the high engagement levels of modern basketball fans in Europe.
