Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo announced on Friday that he is officially partnering with the prediction-market service Kalshi as a shareholder. With this move, Antetokounmpo becomes the first active NBA player to invest directly in the company, which offers financial contracts based on the outcomes of sports, politics, and cultural events.

A Strategic Partnership Beyond the Court

Kalshi issued a statement confirming that the two-time MVP will partner with the company for marketing campaigns, live events, and various brand initiatives. While Kalshi functions through money-based contracts, it is federally regulated as a financial trading platform rather than a gambling service, allowing it to operate legally nationwide without being subject to state gaming commission rules.

Strict Regulations on Insider Trading

As an active NBA player, Antetokounmpo is strictly forbidden from trading in any markets related to the NBA. Kalshi’s terms of service explicitly ban market manipulation and insider trading. The current NBA collective bargaining agreement allows players to endorse sports betting or prediction firms as long as the promotion does not involve NBA-related wagers and permits passive investments up to 1 percent.

Expanding Kalshi’s Athletic Roster

Antetokounmpo is not the only high-profile athlete linked to the platform. While he is the first direct NBA investor, Kevin Durant is an indirect investor via his 35V venture fund. Additionally, Kalshi recently secured an endorsement deal with professional golfer Bryson DeChambeau and announced a formal partnership with the NHL last October, signaling its rapid growth within the professional sports industry.

A Vision for Future Success

In a formal statement, Antetokounmpo expressed his confidence in the company’s trajectory, stating, “It’s clear to me Kalshi is going to be a winner, and I’m excited to be getting involved.” The partnership highlights the increasing intersection between elite athletes and sophisticated financial trading platforms in the modern sports business landscape.
