LaLiga is set to bridge the gap between football history and high fashion with the launch of its inaugural “Retro Round.” During the weekend of April 10–13, 2026, clubs across LaLiga EA Sports (Primera División) and LaLiga Hypermotion (Segunda División) will wear kits inspired by iconic, historical editions from their past.
A Pioneering Initiative in European Football
In a move that distinguishes LaLiga as the first of Europe’s “Big Five” leagues to execute a joint retro-themed matchday, 38 clubs have committed to the initiative. Even the match officials will participate, wearing a special kit design developed in collaboration with the Royal Spanish Football Federation’s (RFEF) Technical Committee of Referees.
Key Highlights:
- Official Reveal: The participating jerseys will be officially unveiled on March 19 at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid (MBFWMadrid), signaling LaLiga’s intent to position football at the center of cultural and creative conversations.
- Immersive Broadcast Experience: The visual identity will extend beyond the pitch. Television broadcasts will feature retro-styled graphics, and digital activations will support the narrative throughout the lead-up to the event.
- Museum Integration: The Legends museum collection will serve as a central pillar of the project, highlighting the historical context behind the designs.
- Strategic Campaign: The event is part of the “42 legacies, 42 ways to win” campaign, which emphasizes the emotional connection and generational inheritance of club fandom.
The Vision Behind the Kits
Jaime Blanco, Director of LaLiga’s Club Office, stated: “The Retro Round is a unique opportunity to pay tribute to the history of our clubs and the symbols that have defined generations. Presenting this collection at Madrid’s Fashion Week is the perfect showcase to project this identity beyond the pitch.”
By blending nostalgic design with modern sports marketing, LaLiga is creating a distinct commercial and emotional touchpoint that deepens the connection between fans and their clubs’ legacies.
