LaLiga has announced that it will discontinue its OTT streaming platform, LaLiga+, effective June 30, 2026, marking the end of a seven-year project that saw an investment exceeding €10 million.
Originally launched under the name LaLigaSportsTV, the platform was designed not as a standalone revenue-driven business, but as a strategic tool to increase visibility, expand audiences, and provide audiovisual exposure for a wide range of sports federations. Over its lifespan, LaLiga+ offered media coverage to more than 45 sports organizations.
According to league officials, the decision does not represent a retreat, but rather the natural conclusion of a completed mission. LaLiga stated that the platform successfully fulfilled its purpose by helping competitions grow their audiences and establish independent distribution ecosystems.
In recent years, many of the sports and competitions featured on LaLiga+ have developed their own platforms, digital channels, and engaged communities. As a result, they are no longer reliant on a centralized distribution hub to amplify their reach.
The league also pointed to broader structural changes in media consumption. Audiences increasingly consume content across multiple platforms rather than within a single environment. This shift has accelerated the move away from centralized OTT models toward more flexible, distributed systems with broader reach and efficiency.
LaLiga+ most recently featured competitions such as Spain’s ASOBAL handball league, basketball tournaments including Primera FEB and LF Endesa, as well as futsal events. In total, content from 18 different sports was available on the platform.
Looking ahead, LaLiga plans to redefine its role within the sports media landscape. Rather than operating a centralized streaming service, the organization intends to focus on supporting the broader ecosystem—offering expertise, technology, and distribution capabilities to partners across the industry.
