Liverpool Reclaims Premier League Financial Summit with Record Revenue

Liverpool FC reports record £703m revenue and returns to profit for the 2024-25 season. See the impact of the Premier League title and record £428m wage bill.

Liverpool FC has officially joined the exclusive “£700 million club.” Following a historic season where Arne Slot guided the Reds to their record-equalling 20th league title, the club’s financial accounts for the year ending May 2025 reveal record revenues of £703 million and a successful return to profitability.

A Championship-Driven Financial Turnaround

After a challenging 2023-24 campaign that saw a £57 million loss due to the absence of Champions League football, the latest figures show a sharp recovery. Driven by a 14.5% surge in overall revenue, the club posted a profit after tax of £8 million.

Key Growth Engines:

  • Media Revenue (£264m): Jumped by 29.4% (£60m) as the club returned to the elite Champions League stage.
  • Matchday Revenue (£116m): Increased by 13.7% during the first full season with the expanded Anfield Road Stand, which brought stadium capacity to a modern record of 61,000.
  • Commercial Revenue (£323m): Rose by 4.9% thanks to high-profile partnerships with Japan Airlines and Lucozade, alongside lucrative summer concerts at Anfield featuring Taylor Swift and Pink.

Record Wages and Performance Bonuses

While revenues hit new heights, the cost of success followed suit. Liverpool’s wage bill rose by £42 million to a Premier League-high £428 million.

Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jenny Beacham noted that while the club remains committed to financial sustainability, it faces significant administrative and operational cost challenges. The spike in wages is largely attributed to heavy performance bonuses triggered by the Premier League title win, as well as the improved contracts for stars like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

Global Media Powerhouse and Digital Dominance

The accounts confirm Liverpool’s status as the most-watched brand in English football. According to Nielsen, the Reds were the most-watched Premier League club during the 2024-25 season, attracting a cumulative global TV audience of 588 million. Furthermore, the club generated a staggering 1.7 billion social media engagements, proving its unrivaled digital reach.
