Lululemon names former Nike executive Heidi O’Neill as new CEO

Lululemon has reshuffled its senior leadership team with the appointment of Heidi O’Neill, former Nike executive, as its new chief executive officer.

The Canada-based performance apparel company said O’Neill will take over the role on September 8 and will also join the board of directors. The move comes as Lululemon looks to restart growth in an increasingly competitive global sportswear market.

O’Neill brings more than 25 years of experience at Nike, where she held senior leadership roles across retail and consumer strategy. At Lululemon, she will be tasked with accelerating product innovation, strengthening brand relevance, and expanding international growth opportunities.

The leadership change comes as Lululemon, which has annual revenues of nearly $11 billion, faces a slowdown in its core North American market. Rising competition and shifting consumer demand have weighed on sales performance in recent periods.

The company also highlighted ongoing governance changes, including board-level adjustments and a broader strategic reset aimed at improving execution and long-term growth.

O’Neill’s appointment follows a period of executive instability. Former CEO Calvin McDonald stepped down earlier this year amid investor pressure and internal disagreements. During the transition, interim leadership was provided by Meghan Frank and André Maestrini, who focused on cost optimisation, store expansion, and product development.

The reshuffle also includes the addition of former Levi Strauss & Co. CEO Chip Bergh to the board, as Lululemon seeks to strengthen its governance structure and strategic direction.

Overall, the company said the new leadership team will focus on redefining its value proposition in a rapidly evolving global sportswear industry.
