Mercury13 Expands Women’s Football Portfolio with FC Badalona Acquisition

Mercury13, the investment group focused exclusively on women’s football, has officially entered the Spanish market by acquiring a majority stake in FC Badalona Women. This move marks a significant milestone for the club, which competes in Liga F, Spain’s top division.

A New Chapter for FC Badalona Women

As part of the acquisition, the club has secured high-profile support to bolster its commercial and technical foundations. The live entertainment discovery platform Fever has joined as the primary shirt sponsor, while Nike has been confirmed as the official technical partner.

The club’s new leadership structure will feature Lauren Holiday (President of Mercury13) on the Board of Directors, while Pedro Iriondo, formerly of FIFA and Olympique de Marseille, has been appointed as CEO. Josep Bellet will continue his role as President of the club, maintaining institutional continuity with Liga F.

Part of a Growing Multi-Club Strategy

This acquisition is the latest step in Mercury13’s aggressive strategy to build a multi-club portfolio across Europe. The group’s current holdings include:

  • FC Como Women (Italy)
  • Bristol City Women (England)
  • FC Badalona Women (Spain)

“Our priority now is to build solid professional structures around the club, both operationally and culturally, while shaping a clear identity that reflects the spirit of the city and its community,” said CEO Pedro Iriondo.

Industry Backing

The project has gained significant industry attention, further evidenced by the involvement of Spanish football star Juan Mata, who joined Mercury13 as an investor in 2025. With a focus on long-term capital, operational expertise, and commercial scaling, Mercury13 is positioning itself as a transformative force in the professionalization of the women’s game across the continent.
