MotoGP has confirmed that the Malaysian Grand Prix will continue to be held at the Sepang International Circuit after signing a new agreement that extends its partnership until 2031. The deal, concluded with the FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme), secures the circuit’s place on the calendar for an additional five editions.
The current contract was set to expire this year following the race scheduled for October 30 to November 1. However, Sepang will remain a key venue in MotoGP’s long-term global strategy.
The Malaysian Grand Prix has been a consistent fixture in the MotoGP calendar since 1999. In its most recent edition, the event recorded its highest-ever attendance, attracting a total of 190,077 spectators.
Sepang has also played a major role in global motorsport history, having hosted Formula 1 races between 1991 and 2017, further cementing its status as a premier racing destination in Asia.
MotoGP CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta described Malaysia as a strategically important market for the championship, highlighting its strong fan base and the growing economic impact of the event. He also referred to Sepang as “a fantastic home for our sport.”
Malaysia’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari, emphasized that the renewal goes beyond securing a calendar slot, stating that it strengthens the country’s position as a leading motorsport destination while supporting economic growth, talent development, and industry expansion.
With this extension, MotoGP continues to reinforce its long-term presence in one of its most important Asian markets, ensuring stability for both the championship and its commercial ecosystem through 2031.
