MotoGP extends RTL broadcast partnership in Germany through 2030 with free-to-air race coverage

MotoGP

MotoGP has renewed its media rights agreement with RTL Deutschland, extending the broadcaster’s coverage of the championship in Germany, Austria and Switzerland from 2027 through 2030.

The new deal marks a significant shift in MotoGP’s distribution strategy, as selected Grands Prix will be broadcast free-to-air in Germany for the first time, aiming to expand the championship’s reach in one of Europe’s key motorsport markets.

Expanded rights package

In addition to MotoGP races, the agreement includes broadcasting rights for several support championships, including the Harley-Davidson Bagger World Cup, the Moto4 Northern Cup, and the Red Bull Rookies Cup, which features promising 16-year-old German rider Fynn Kratochwil.

The rights cover all distribution platforms across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, while also including commercial exhibition rights for bars, restaurants, hotels and other public venues through Sky Business.

Sky remains the primary pay-TV broadcaster

Although RTL has expanded its involvement, Sky Sports will continue as the primary pay-TV broadcaster for MotoGP across Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Hans Gabbe, Senior Vice President of Sports Rights and Commercialisation at RTL Deutschland, said the agreement allows the broadcaster to strengthen its long-term partnership with MotoGP while introducing selected races to a broader free-to-air audience.

MotoGP Media Rights Director Alex Arroyo described the extension as another important step in strengthening the championship’s presence in Germany, one of Europe’s most important motorcycle racing markets.

The agreement reflects MotoGP’s broader strategy of balancing premium subscription broadcasting with increased free-to-air exposure to attract new audiences and grow its commercial footprint across Europe.
