MotoGP Group has appointed Carlos Ezpeleta as deputy CEO, working alongside CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta as the championship enters a new phase of commercial expansion and transformation under Liberty Media’s ownership.
Ezpeleta, who has held senior roles within MotoGP for more than a decade, has played a key role in the championship’s international growth, commercial development and global fan engagement. His experience spans both the sporting and business sides of MotoGP, including work on rider safety, competitive balance and the entertainment offering across international markets.
Carmelo Ezpeleta praised his long-standing contribution to the organisation, saying Carlos had been “fundamental” to MotoGP’s growth over the years.
“His experience spans every part of our business, and his leadership, vision and passion for the sport make him the right person to help guide MotoGP into its next chapter,” Carmelo Ezpeleta said.
Liberty Media targets further commercial growth
The appointment comes as Liberty Media seeks to unlock further commercial value from MotoGP, expand digital distribution and increase the championship’s audience across key international markets.
Derek Chang, CEO of Liberty Media, said the company sees significant potential to take MotoGP to another level.
“Carlos has the experience, vision and deep understanding of MotoGP to help lead that transformation,” Chang said.
Carlos Ezpeleta said his new role comes at an important moment for the championship and highlighted the opportunity to reach new audiences and create additional commercial opportunities.
“It is a great honour to take on this role at such an exciting moment for MotoGP,” he said. “With incredible fans and partners around the world, I look forward to working with Liberty Media and the entire MotoGP community to reach new audiences, create new opportunities and unlock the sport’s full potential.”
The strengthened leadership structure comes as MotoGP continues to position itself for its next stage of global growth under Liberty Media.
