Movistar Plus+ continued its upward momentum in 2025, closing the year with 3.8 million subscribers after adding 278,000 new customers, marking a 7.9% year-on-year increase. The growth rate effectively tripled the platform’s expansion pace compared to 2024, reinforcing its position as one of Spain’s leading streaming and pay-TV services.
The audiovisual platform, owned by Telefónica, has been boosted by a strategy focused on premium sports rights and high-quality original content.
“The growth of Movistar Plus+ proves that our model works: investing in the best content, the best sports, and creative talent in Spain,” said Daniel Domenjó, chief executive of Movistar Plus+.
Sports broadcasting rights have played a central role in the platform’s expansion. During the current cycle, Movistar Plus+ secured major renewals, including UEFA Champions League and other UEFA club competitions rights through 2031, as well as LaLiga EA Sports broadcasting rights until 2032.
The platform has also strengthened its football offering by securing the rights to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following an agreement with sports streaming service DAZN.
With subscriber growth accelerating and long-term sports rights secured, Movistar Plus+ is positioning itself for continued expansion in the competitive European sports media market.
