Mumbai Cricket Association Advances Plans for 100,000-Seat Stadium in Navi Mumbai

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is moving forward with plans to build a new 100,000-capacity stadium after identifying a potential site in Navi Mumbai. According to reports, the land acquisition process has begun following a meeting between MCA president Ajinkya Naik and City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) managing director Vijay Singh. The project had previously been linked to a 50-acre plot in Amane, located in Maharashtra’s Thane district, but focus has now shifted to a site closer to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport. Naik described the development as a “defining moment” for the region’s sports infrastructure, emphasizing its potential to elevate cricket in Mumbai and strengthen Maharashtra’s presence on the global stage. The planned venue is expected to support player development while expanding opportunities for emerging talent. Mumbai already hosts several major cricket venues, including the Wankhede Stadium, DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium. If completed, the new stadium would rank among the largest in the world, though it would still trail the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which has a capacity of 132,000 and hosted the 2023 Cricket World Cup final.
