Nike has announced a change in its financial leadership team. Effective August 17, David M. Denton will become the company’s new executive vice president and chief financial officer, succeeding Matthew Friend, who will remain with Nike until September 4 to support the transition process.
Denton joins Nike after serving as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Pfizer since 2022. He brings more than three decades of financial leadership experience, including previous roles at Lowe’s Companies and CVS Health Corporation.
He has also served on the boards of several publicly traded companies, including Haleon and Tapestry, and is expected to join the board of Honeywell Aerospace.
“Dave is a seasoned public company CFO who understands how to help leading consumer brands operate with discipline and invest to win,” said Elliott Hill, president and CEO of Nike.
Denton expressed enthusiasm about joining the company, stating: “Nike is one of the world’s greatest brands, with extraordinary strengths in sport, innovation and global scale. I’m excited to partner with Elliott Hill and the leadership team to support the company’s priorities, invest with discipline and help drive sustainable long-term value.”
Friend will participate in Nike’s fiscal 2026 fourth-quarter earnings call on June 30 as planned. The company also noted that its quarterly results will include a one-time benefit related to previously unanticipated tariff reimbursements. Excluding this impact, performance is expected to remain in line with earlier guidance.
