Nine Network has solidified its position as the home of tennis in Australia by extending its exclusive broadcast rights for the Wimbledon Championships through 2029. The three-year extension with the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) ensures the grass-court major remains on Nine’s linear and digital platforms, including 9Now and Stan Sport.

A Grand Slam Sweep

The renewal maintains Nine’s control over all four major tennis championships: the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. Nine has held the Wimbledon rights since 2021, when it took over from Foxtel and Seven.

Australian Open 2026: A Ratings Juggernaut

The deal comes on the heels of staggering viewership data from the 2026 Australian Open, which concluded yesterday. The tournament saw Carlos Alcaraz defeat Novak Djokovic in a historic men’s final.

Key Viewership Stats:

  • Total Reach: 14.31 million Australians (up 9.3% YoY).
  • Men’s Final Reach: 6.302 million (a massive 67% increase YoY).
  • Women’s Final Reach: 3.8 million (up 30.1% YoY) for Elena Rybakina’s victory over Aryna Sabalenka.
  • Attendance Record: A record 1.37 million fans visited Melbourne Park over the three-week period.

High-Stakes Investment

Nine’s commitment to tennis is backed by a record A$425 million ($283 million) deal for the domestic rights to the Australian Open through 2029. This current agreement is approximately A$125 million higher than the previous five-year contract, reflecting the surging commercial value of live tennis in the Australian market.
