Quantum Pacific Acquires Spanish SailGP Team in Landmark Investment Deal

Quantum Pacific Acquires Los Gallos SailGP Team in Spain’s Largest Sailing Investment

Quantum Pacific has acquired the Los Gallos SailGP Team, representing the largest investment ever made in a sailing team in Spain and further accelerating the commercialization of the SailGP league.

The move continues a broader trend within SailGP, which has been steadily transitioning its teams into privately owned assets backed by international investors.

Strategic expansion into a key market

Spain is considered a cornerstone market for SailGP, having already hosted multiple events in Cádiz and preparing to stage a race in Valencia in September 2026. The acquisition strengthens Quantum Pacific’s presence in the Iberian region, a market it has identified as strategically important.

Championship-winning team with strong leadership

The Los Gallos team, led by Olympic champions Diego Botin and Florian Trittel, alongside strategist Nicole van der Velden, captured the SailGP Season 4 championship, making it one of the most competitive teams in the league.

Under the new ownership structure, Quantum Pacific executives Amit Singh and Harry Odling will join the team’s board, supporting governance and strategic direction.

Part of a growing sports investment portfolio

This acquisition adds to Quantum Pacific’s expanding sports portfolio, which includes stakes in major properties such as Atlético de Madrid, FC Famalicão, and the Movistar Team.

The group has increasingly focused on high-growth sports assets across Europe, combining commercial potential with global fan engagement.

SailGP’s privatization strategy nearing completion

The deal also represents another milestone in SailGP’s long-term strategy to transition all teams into privately owned entities. Since its launch in 2019 with six teams, the league has expanded to 13 teams, with most now backed by private investors.

Only the New Zealand SailGP Team remains without private ownership, marking the final step toward full privatization of the league’s team structure.

Continued investor interest in SailGP

Recent years have seen significant investment activity across SailGP teams, with acquisitions and stake purchases involving global investors, private equity firms, and high-profile individuals. This includes deals across teams such as Germany, Denmark, Australia, Italy, and France, reflecting strong commercial confidence in the league’s growth model.

SailGP executives have emphasized that independent ownership strengthens the league by bringing capital, strategic expertise, and market access, reinforcing its ambition to build a globally competitive and commercially sustainable sports platform.
