RB Leipzig and PUMA have officially launched a limited-edition “Glow In The Dark” jersey, blending performance technology with a high-fashion lifestyle concept. The jersey was unveiled at an international activation event at the Saturdays Football store in New York City, timed to coincide with New York Fashion Week.
The event drew a high-profile audience of roughly 170 guests from the fashion, media, and football industries. Moving away from traditional sports retail, the launch featured live art, DJ sets, and on-site personalization, highlighting the shirt’s crossover appeal as streetwear.
A Design Inspired by the Urban Night
The kit is the first in RB Leipzig’s history to feature fluorescent elements on both the front and back logos. The design includes:
- Urban Mapping: A graphic pattern inspired by the city structure of Leipzig.
- Photoluminescent Detail: Elements that activate under low-light conditions, specifically designed for use under floodlights.
- Strategic Branding: Fluorescent blue logos set against a black base, paired with matching shorts and socks.
On-Pitch Debut Against Dortmund
The jersey made its official competitive debut on February 21, 2026, during a high-stakes Bundesliga clash against Borussia Dortmund at the Red Bull Arena.
In a dramatic encounter played under the stadium lights, RB Leipzig drew 2-2 with Dortmund. Leipzig took a commanding 2-0 lead in the first half behind a brace from Christoph Baumgartner (20′, 39′). However, a second-half resurgence—including a Rômulo own goal and a 95th-minute equalizer from Fábio Silva—saw the points shared.
Regulatory Modifications
Despite the commercial success of the “Glow In The Dark” concept, the version worn on-pitch was slightly modified to comply with Bundesliga (8.4) and FIFA regulations. To meet rules that prohibit reflective materials that change appearance due to external light, the club utilized a version with standard non-reflective numbering and names for the match.
