Real Betis has launched a groundbreaking sustainable football shirt in collaboration with Hummel, marking a world-first in sports apparel. The jersey, partially crafted from orange peel fibers, was introduced through the club’s sustainability platform, Forever Green, to celebrate and protect urban natural heritage.

The “Green-and-Whites” will debut the kit during their LaLiga Matchday 25 fixture against Rayo Vallecano on February 21. This initiative, titled “Green life begins in the neighborhood,” aims to highlight the importance of city trees as natural cooling systems and essential components of urban quality of life.

A Sensory Experience

The kit features several unique design elements inspired by Seville’s famous orange trees:

  • Perforated Numbers: The font on the back of the shirts mimics the texture of orange skin.
  • Scented Technology: When fans or players scratch the numbers, the fabric releases the scent of orange blossom (azahar), a symbolic fragrance of Seville.

Beyond the aesthetics, the campaign emphasizes the role of orange trees in providing shade, stabilizing metropolitan climates, and managing rainwater through natural drainage. This launch continues the club’s annual tradition of dedicating one LaLiga match per season to a specific environmental challenge.
