Saudi Arabia has unveiled plans for a spectacular new National Tennis Centre as part of the ever-growing Qiddiya City development, further strengthening the Kingdom’s ambitions to become a global destination for major sporting events.
The new complex will be centred around a 15,000-seat Centre Court arena equipped with a retractable roof, designed to host some of the world’s biggest tennis tournaments as well as large-scale entertainment events.
The facility will feature a total of 30 outdoor courts, including 28 hard courts and two clay courts. Alongside the main stadium, an 8,000-seat Court 3 arena with a retractable roof will provide a flexible venue for tennis, concerts and other major events. Two additional show courts will accommodate 5,000 and 2,000 spectators respectively.
In total, the National Tennis Centre will offer seating for approximately 33,000 spectators. The venue will also include six competition courts, six indoor courts, 14 practice courts and several outdoor match courts, each with a capacity of 450 seats.
Beyond competition, the complex aims to serve as a hub for athlete development. Plans include a high-performance training centre featuring a state-of-the-art gym, hydrotherapy and physiotherapy facilities, recovery and wellness areas, dedicated players’ lounges, changing rooms and integrated media spaces.
Designed by Populous, the company behind some of the world’s most iconic sports venues, the National Tennis Centre is expected to become the largest tennis complex in the Middle East. Built to ATP, WTA and International Tennis Federation standards, construction is already well underway.
The venue will stand adjacent to an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Sir Nick Faldo.
Qiddiya Investment Company Managing Director Abdullah Aldawood said the project reflects the city’s philosophy of using sport and recreation to inspire future generations and strengthen communities, while also supporting Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals of increasing sports participation and boosting tourism.
The National Tennis Centre adds to Qiddiya City’s expanding sports and entertainment portfolio, which already includes Six Flags, Aquarabia Water Park and PlayMaker Studios. Future projects include a new horse racing venue set to host the Saudi Cup, Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Stadium, the Speed Park Track and the world’s first mixed-use gaming and esports district.
