Sky Sport is strengthening its athletics coverage with the acquisition of broadcasting rights for two major international events in 2026: the European Athletics Championships, scheduled from August 10–16 in Birmingham, UK, and the World Athletics Indoor Championships, taking place March 20–22 in Torun, Poland. Both events will be available live on Sky and via streaming on NOW.
The 21st edition of the World Indoor Championships kicks off at Torun Arena, featuring 27 disciplines over three days. Athletes will compete in indoor track and field staples including sprints, hurdles, middle-distance races, jumps, throws, combined events, and relays.
Italy is sending its largest-ever indoor squad to the World Championships, with 26 athletes – 13 men and 13 women. Among the stars are long jump world champion Mattia Furlani, Olympic and world silver medalist Nadia Battocletti (3000 meters), triple jumpers Andy Diaz and Andrea Dallavalle, shot putter Leonardo Fabbri, and sprinter Zaynab Dosso. Sixteen-year-old Kelly Doualla makes history as the youngest Italian ever selected for an indoor World Championship.
Sky Sport will provide full live coverage of all three days, with commentary from Nicola Roggero and Stefano Baldini. Pre- and post-event analysis will air on Sky Sport 24, hosted by Alessandro Acton and featuring triple jumper Dariya Derkach, with on-site reporting from Federica Frola in Torun. Updates will also be shared on Sky Sport’s website and social media channels @SkySport and @nowit.
Coverage continues in August with the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, marking the first time the UK will host the event. Competitions will take place at Alexander Stadium, featuring over 1,500 athletes from more than 50 nations. Road events, including the marathon and race walks, will run through central Birmingham.
With these additions, Sky Sport reinforces its position as a leading broadcaster of international athletics, complementing its existing coverage of the Wanda Diamond League and World Athletics Continental Tour Gold.
