Sky Sports extends US Open rights in UK and Ireland through 2030

Sky Sports has extended its media rights agreement with the United States Tennis Association (USTA) to keep the US Open as an exclusive property on its platforms in the UK and Ireland through the end of 2030.

The three-year extension will see Sky Sports and streaming service NOW continue to carry live coverage of the tournament’s men’s and women’s singles, doubles, mixed doubles, junior and wheelchair competitions throughout the three-week event.

The agreement was negotiated by IMG, the USTA’s media rights partner.

Rights strategy expands beyond live coverage

The renewed deal also includes clips and highlights for Sky’s digital and social platforms, extending the value of the US Open rights beyond linear television and full-match streaming.

The agreement comes as broadcasters increasingly use short-form and digital content to expand the reach and commercial value of premium sports rights across multiple platforms.

Sky Sports UK & Ireland CEO Jonathan Licht said the renewal strengthens the broadcaster’s long-term relationship with the USTA and its position in the UK and Irish sports market.

USTA chief commercial officer Kirsten Corio said the continued partnership would support the growth of tennis and strengthen connections with fans in the region.

US Open strengthens Sky’s tennis portfolio

The extension further consolidates Sky’s position in the UK and Ireland tennis market. The broadcaster currently offers coverage of the ATP and WTA Tours across Sky Sports, NOW and the Sky Sports app.

Sky Sports is set to broadcast more than 4,000 matches across 80 tennis tournaments during the 2026 season, making tennis a significant component of its year-round sports offering.

The US Open was previously broadcast by Sky between 1991 and 2015 before returning to the platform in 2023. The latest extension will now keep the tournament within Sky’s portfolio through 2030.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
