Tiger Woods Drives TGL Viewership Surge in Season-Closing Finals

Tiger Woods made an immediate impact on television ratings as his return helped boost viewership for the indoor golf league TGL, according to new broadcast data from ESPN.

The TGL Finals-clinching matchup averaged 989,000 viewers, marking the second-most watched match in the league’s two-season history and the highest audience of the 2026 campaign. The game peaked at 1.15 million viewers per minute, underscoring the drawing power of Woods’ participation.

Woods, who co-owns Jupiter Links Golf Club, had not played since March 2025 prior to the finals appearance. His presence helped elevate interest in a matchup that saw Los Angeles Golf Club secure a dominant 9–2 victory in under 90 minutes.

“Tiger Effect” Still Strong

The numbers reinforce the so-called “Tiger effect,” with Woods continuing to serve as a major catalyst for audience engagement. The league’s debut featuring Woods remains its all-time viewership high at just over 1 million viewers.

Across the 2026 season, TGL averaged 488,000 viewers per broadcast, representing a slight 2% decline year-over-year compared to Season 1’s average of 498,000. However, playoff viewership showed strong growth, averaging 618,000 viewers, up 42% from the previous postseason.

Late-Season Boost and Digital Growth

Woods’ return also contributed to a broader uptick in interest during March, with average viewership up 73% year-over-year compared to the same month in 2025.

Beyond linear television, TGL reported significant digital momentum, with 232 million social media video views during the season—an 86% increase from the prior year. The league also recorded 44 videos surpassing 1 million views.

Media Rights Outlook

ESPN’s initial two-year media rights agreement with TGL has now expired, placing the league at a pivotal moment as it explores renewal with ESPN or potential partnerships with new broadcasters. Woods’ involvement in marquee moments is expected to remain a key asset in those discussions.

As TGL looks ahead to expansion and long-term growth, its reliance on star power—particularly Tiger Woods—continues to be a defining factor in its ability to attract and retain audiences.
