In a powerful display of community solidarity, the City of Valladolid and its eight premier sports clubs have launched a new initiative titled “Valladolid hace equipo, aquà nadie juega solo” (Valladolid teams up, no one plays alone here). This campaign aims to tackle the rising concerns of youth mental health, adolescent loneliness, and suicide prevention.
The initiative brings together the city’s sporting elite and social welfare organizations to turn athletic infrastructure into a “network of protection” for local adolescents.
Key Pillars of the Initiative
- Collective Visibility: As a symbolic gesture of unity, teams will compete in their home matches wearing the jerseys of other local clubs. This visual solidarity emphasizes that when it comes to mental well-being, the entire city stands as one team.
- Professional Training: In partnership with social entities such as Fundación Intras, El Puente Salud Mental, and El Teléfono de la Esperanza, the campaign provides specialized training for sports club staff. Employees will learn to identify early warning signs, manage crisis situations, and properly refer adolescents to professional help.
- Sport as a Protective Factor: The campaign leverages the inherent social benefits of organized sport—such as routine, teamwork, and community belonging—to counteract the risks of isolation and emotional distress that many young people face today.
Institutional Commitment
The project represents a significant evolution of the municipal welfare programs initiated in 2024. Gabriel Solares, co-president of Real Valladolid, emphasized the responsibility of these organizations during the launch: “We are an agent of change, where youth can find values and their place in the world. Participation in team sports serves as a vital protective tool for our adolescents.”
This campaign reinforces the commitment of Valladolid’s institutions to ensure that every young resident feels supported. As the slogan clearly states: “Aquà nadie juega solo” (No one plays alone here).
