Women’s AFCON Postponed to July 2026

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced the postponement of the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Originally scheduled to take place in Morocco from March 17 to April 3, the tournament has been rescheduled to run from July 25 to August 16, 2026.

While CAF cited “unforeseen circumstances” for the delay, they emphasized that the decision was made in consultation with FIFA and key stakeholders to “ensure the success” of the competition. Despite rumors regarding a potential change of host, CAF has confirmed that Morocco will remain the host nation.

Tournament Updates & Format Changes

  • Host Cities: The event will be played across four venues: Al Madina and Moulay El Hassan Stadiums (Rabat), Larbi Zaouli Stadium (Casablanca), and Fez Stadium.
  • Expanded Format: The tournament will feature an expanded 16-team format, increasing from the originally planned 12-team structure.
  • Context: Morocco, which recently staged the men’s AFCON, continues to solidify its status as a premier hub for African football, building toward its role as a co-host for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
