Portia Archer is stepping down from her role as Chief Executive Officer of the WTA, with her departure set to take effect on April 20, 2026, following the end of her contract.
The announcement was made in a memo from WTA Chair Valerie Camillo, who confirmed that the organization will provide an update on its leadership transition plan in May. It has not yet been determined whether the process will involve internal restructuring or an external appointment.
Camillo praised Archer’s contributions during her tenure, highlighting her role in expanding into new markets, improving player-focused initiatives, strengthening safety standards, and advancing technological innovation across women’s tennis. She also credited Archer with helping elevate the WTA’s position within the broader tennis ecosystem.
Archer joined the WTA in mid-2024, taking over leadership responsibilities following a structural change that separated the roles of president and CEO. She succeeded former WTA President and CEO Steve Simon, who had previously combined both positions.
Before joining the WTA, Archer held several senior executive roles across major sports and media organizations, including the NBA G League, NBC Sports, and HBO, where she worked across digital distribution, streaming, and international operations.
Her departure comes at a pivotal moment for women’s tennis, as the WTA continues to focus on commercial expansion, global market growth, and strengthening its competitive calendar. The leadership transition is expected to be a key topic ahead of the organization’s next strategic phase.
