How Fox Landed Zlatan Ibrahimović as a World Cup Studio Analyst

Zlatan Ibrahimović, the Swedish striker known as much for his quotes as his goals, is set to bring his larger-than-life personality to Fox Sports’ FIFA World Cup coverage this summer. Fox executives liken his potential as an analyst to NBA legend Charles Barkley—authentic, entertaining, and unafraid to stir conversation.

“He was at the top of the list of people we wanted to take swings at for this World Cup,” Fox Sports President Brad Zager told The Athletic. “We put a blank slate on the board … and Zlatan was one that there was no reason not to take a swing and see if he would be willing.”

Ibrahimović, 44, will debut on Fox’s studio show when the tournament kicks off on June 11 across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. He joins Thierry Henry and, on loan from NBC, host Rebecca Lowe as part of Fox’s “Big Three” hires. Other potential recruits included David Beckham and Jürgen Klopp.

Over a 25-year career, Ibrahimović starred for top clubs including AC Milan, Inter Milan, Barcelona, and LA Galaxy. He scored 52 goals in 56 MLS games before retiring in 2023 and represented Sweden in the 2002 and 2006 World Cups. Known for bold statements—like comparing himself to a Ferrari while critiquing Pep Guardiola—his personality off the pitch is expected to translate seamlessly to studio analysis.

Fox’s strategy appears clear: combine star power with authenticity. “He was so detail-oriented about if he is going to do this, he’s going to be good,” Zager said. Fans can expect a high-energy, no-holds-barred approach from Ibrahimović throughout the World Cup.
