RC Celta de Vigo is set to remain at its historic home, Estadio Municipal de BalaÃdos, for the next five decades after the local council moves to approve an exclusive concession agreement.
The Vigo City Council is expected to ratify the terms on April 10, granting the club long-term rights to operate and use the stadium for 50 years, with the possibility of extending the agreement up to 75 years under certain conditions.
Long-Term Stability for the Club
The agreement effectively ends years of institutional tension between the club and the municipality. RC Celta has played at BalaÃdos since 1928, and this new deal ensures continuity at the venue well into the future.
The improved relationship between the club’s current leadership and the city authorities has been a key factor in reaching the agreement, replacing earlier disagreements over stadium renovations and maintenance responsibilities.

The long-term concession aligns with Vigo’s ambitions to become a host city for the FIFA World Cup 2030.
The Spanish Football Federation has already submitted Vigo as a candidate venue, and BalaÃdos is being positioned as a potential host stadium among Spain’s proposed sites.
To meet tournament requirements, the stadium is expected to undergo major upgrades, including an expansion of its capacity to approximately 43,000 seats. This would involve structural modifications, particularly the enlargement of the Tribuna stand and the relocation of underlying infrastructure such as utility systems.
Infrastructure Investment and Economic Impact
Spain is projected to invest heavily in infrastructure ahead of the 2030 World Cup, with estimates around €1.43 billion. The tournament is expected to generate a broader economic impact exceeding €5 billion, driven by tourism, construction, and commercial activity.
