McDonald’s launches 2026 World Cup fan experience strategy

McDonald’s is positioning itself as more than a sponsor for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, unveiling a fully integrated fan engagement strategy that blends physical restaurants, digital platforms, and personalized content.

At the center of the campaign is a themed product lineup featuring seven country-inspired sandwiches, supported by football icon Cafu as the face of the activation. The rollout is designed to turn matchdays into continuous consumer touchpoints across both in-store and online environments.

A key activation hub will be the flagship McDonald’s store in São Paulo, Brazil, which has been transformed into an immersive fan experience space. The restaurant will serve as a testing ground for personalization features, pre-sales, and interactive World Cup-themed experiences.

The strategy heavily leans on McDonald’s mobile app, which is being positioned as the central engine of engagement. Pre-orders, loyalty rewards, and personalized offers are designed to bridge physical visits with digital interaction throughout the tournament.

With the 2026 World Cup expanding to 48 teams and 104 matches across North America, McDonald’s sees a significantly larger activation window, allowing the brand to maintain continuous visibility across the entire competition cycle.

Executives say the goal is not just increased sales, but embedding McDonald’s into the cultural rhythm of the tournament—becoming a recurring meeting point for fans before, during, and after matches.
