Rwanda has emerged as an unexpected commercial winner in the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League, with its tourism brand Visit Rwanda sponsoring three of the four semifinalists.
The African nation currently holds partnerships with Atlético de Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal FC, while also maintaining a football development agreement with FC Bayern Munich—effectively securing representation across all remaining teams in the final phase of Europe’s top competition.
This strategic positioning provides Visit Rwanda with exceptional global exposure, leveraging one of the most-watched sporting events worldwide to reach audiences across Europe and beyond. The initiative underscores Rwanda’s long-term ambition to boost tourism and international visibility through elite sports sponsorship.
The country’s investment in sports marketing extends beyond football. In the United States, Visit Rwanda has signed sponsorship deals with the Los Angeles Clippers and the Los Angeles Rams, including jersey patch placements—highlighting a targeted push into the North American market.
On the African continent, Rwanda has also played a central role in the growth of basketball, serving as a host partner of the Basketball Africa League since its launch in 2021.
By aligning with high-profile teams and competitions, Rwanda is building a diversified and globally oriented sports sponsorship portfolio, positioning itself as a rising player in the intersection of tourism promotion and international sport.
