LaLiga has signed a new strategic agreement with Chinese Super League leaders Chengdu Rongcheng, further deepening its influence in one of football’s key growth markets.
The partnership will see LaLiga provide advisory support to the club on structural development, professionalisation, and youth academy systems, as Chengdu Rongcheng continues its rise at the top of China’s domestic league.
The collaboration includes knowledge-sharing programmes, with club executives participating in workshops and visits to Spanish clubs such as Atlético Madrid and CD Leganés, aimed at transferring operational and sporting best practices.
For LaLiga, the deal is part of a broader, coordinated expansion strategy in China. In the past year, the organisation has also signed cooperation agreements with both the Chinese league system and the national football federation, positioning itself as a long-term development partner rather than a traditional broadcaster or marketing rights holder.
The initiative reflects LaLiga’s wider internationalisation model under president Javier Tebas, which increasingly focuses on exporting operational expertise — from academy structures to league governance — as global leagues seek to modernise competitive ecosystems.
LaLiga’s China director, Sergi Torrents, described the agreement as a step forward in strengthening structural collaboration and long-term talent development between Spanish and Chinese football.
Rather than short-term commercial exposure, the strategy highlights a shift toward embedded influence: shaping how clubs operate, develop players, and build sustainable sporting models in emerging football markets.
