NWSL confirms spring-to-fall schedule until at least 2030

National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) has confirmed that it will maintain its spring-to-fall competition calendar through at least the 2030 season, ending speculation about a shift to a European-style schedule.

The league stated that the decision follows extensive evaluation with stakeholders and reflects confidence in its current growth model. It also emphasized stability for clubs, players, and partners across the competition.

The debate emerged after Major League Soccer announced plans to switch to a fall-to-spring calendar starting in 2027. That move raised concerns about scheduling conflicts, especially for clubs sharing stadiums or infrastructure across both leagues.

Operational challenges were also a factor in the decision. Many NWSL clubs are based in cold-weather cities, where winter conditions could negatively impact pitch quality, travel logistics, and player safety.

The league’s players’ union supported the decision, highlighting that stability and player health were key priorities throughout the discussions.
