FIFA unveils fan-focused pre-match ceremony for the 2026 World Cup

FIFA has revealed a redesigned pre-match ceremony for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, introducing a fan-centric concept aimed at creating a deeper connection between players and supporters while enhancing one of football’s most iconic moments.

The new format will debut across the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico, transforming stadiums into immersive 360-degree experiences designed to engage fans from every seat.

Every player will share the spotlight

One of the most significant changes is that all players included in a matchday squad—not just the starting XI—will participate in the national anthem ceremony.

Players and referees will gather around a central World Cup banner positioned in the centre circle, allowing every squad member to experience the symbolic moment of representing their country on football’s biggest stage.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the new approach is designed to create a stronger sense of unity, pride and emotion for both teams and supporters.

A 360-degree stadium experience

Under the new concept, players will enter the field through dedicated player-entry arches located near their respective tunnels and will be accompanied by youth programme escorts.

Additional visual elements will include:

  • Giant country flag banners
  • A central ceremony banner in the centre circle
  • Handheld national flags
  • FIFA branding integrated across the pitch

The layout has been designed to ensure supporters throughout the stadium become active participants in the ceremony rather than simply spectators.

Enhanced celebrations later in the tournament

FIFA also confirmed that selected matches in the later stages of the competition will feature additional entertainment elements, including coloured smoke effects and pyrotechnic displays.

The organisation believes these additions will further increase the anticipation and spectacle surrounding the tournament’s biggest fixtures.

Global sponsors integrated into the experience

The new ceremony will also provide enhanced visibility for FIFA’s commercial partners.

Brands including Adidas, Coca-Cola, Kia, Mengniu, Qatar Airways and Quaker will feature through integrations in player tunnels and youth programme activities.

FIFA aims to redefine the World Cup experience

With 48 teams and 104 matches, the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the largest edition in tournament history.

The new pre-match ceremony forms part of FIFA’s broader strategy to elevate the fan experience and transform matchdays into immersive entertainment events, combining football, visual storytelling and stadium-wide participation on an unprecedented scale.
