Manchester City launches £7.50 ticket scheme for local residents around Etihad Stadium

Manchester City has introduced a new discounted ticket initiative aimed at strengthening its connection with the local community by offering Premier League match tickets for as little as £7.50 to residents living near the Etihad Stadium.

The club will make between 100 and 500 discounted tickets available for every Premier League home fixture, as well as selected domestic cup and UEFA Champions League matches.

The scheme is open to residents of the neighborhoods surrounding the stadium, including Ancoats & Beswick, Clayton & Openshaw, Gorton & Abbey Hey, Ardwick, and Miles Platting & Newton Heath. Under-18 supporters will be able to attend matches for just £5.

Third consecutive ticket price freeze

The initiative builds on Manchester City’s broader affordability strategy. The club has frozen season-ticket and matchday ticket prices for a third consecutive year and continues to offer weekday Premier League tickets starting from £25 for adults.

The move comes amid growing concerns over the rising cost of attending Premier League matches, where ticket prices have increased significantly in recent years, particularly for high-demand fixtures.

Responding to changing fan demographics

The club’s decision reflects wider concerns across English football about the accessibility of live matches for local supporters.

As ticket demand has surged and stadiums continue to operate at or near full capacity, Premier League matches have increasingly become premium entertainment products. Hospitality packages combining match tickets, accommodation and other experiences can cost several hundred pounds, attracting wealthier spectators and international tourists.

With general-sale tickets becoming increasingly scarce due to sold-out season-ticket allocations, many local fans have found it more difficult to attend matches.

Although the number of discounted tickets represents only a small share of the Etihad Stadium’s total capacity, Manchester City hopes the initiative will help preserve the presence of local supporters and reinforce the club’s long-standing relationship with its surrounding communities.
