LaLiga has launched a new international media rights strategy by offering the Segunda División (LaLiga Hypermotion) as a standalone package, separating it from the top-flight competition for the first time.
According to SportBusiness, the tender covers 18 European territories and represents a significant shift in the league’s approach to international rights distribution.
Until now, LaLiga’s first and second division media rights have typically been sold together as a single package. By unbundling the Segunda División, the league aims to increase the competition’s international visibility and unlock its standalone commercial value.
The new model is expected to provide broadcasters with greater flexibility while expanding the second tier’s reach across different European markets through more tailored rights agreements.
The move reflects a broader trend in the sports media industry, where leagues are increasingly packaging competitions separately to maximize exposure, attract a wider range of broadcasters, and optimize commercial revenues.
