Lazio terminate Polymarket sponsorship deal, will receive €9.5 million for 2026-27

Serie A club Lazio and prediction platform Polymarket have mutually agreed to terminate their main sponsorship deal at the start of the season, with the Italian club set to receive the full €9.5 million payment due for the 2026-27 campaign.

The agreement, originally signed in April and running through 2028 with an option for an additional season, has been ended early following regulatory changes in Italy that restrict certain types of sponsorship, including those linked to betting and gambling.

The decision comes amid uncertainty over whether Polymarket could be considered a gambling-related activity under Italian law. The platform’s website has been blocked in Italy since July 27 following intervention by the Agenzia delle Dogane e dei Monopoli, Italy’s customs and monopolies authority.

Despite the termination, Polymarket will pay Lazio the full amount agreed for the 2026-27 season, worth €9.5 million, according to Italian outlet Calcio e Finanza.

The two parties said they remain committed to maintaining a relationship based on mutual respect and cooperation and will continue their institutional dialogue. Lazio added that if Italy’s regulatory framework changes in the future, the club and Polymarket could consider renewing their partnership.

The termination leaves Lazio without a main shirt sponsor just days before the start of the new Serie A season, giving the club an opportunity to seek a replacement partner for the vacant position.

The development highlights the growing regulatory challenges facing prediction and betting-related companies seeking commercial partnerships with football clubs in Italy.
