The return of LaLiga has delivered a significant boost to DAZN’s viewing figures in Spain, with premium football once again proving to be a powerful audience driver for the sports streaming platform.
According to data from Barlovento Comunicación, DAZN LaLiga recorded a 2.3 per cent audience share on August 27, making it the most-watched pay-TV channel in Spain that day.
The biggest contributor was the LaLiga clash between Barcelona and Athletic Club. Barcelona’s 2-0 victory attracted an average audience of 1.058 million viewers and an 11 per cent share on DAZN LaLiga.
The match was not only the most-watched programme on pay-TV but also the most-watched programme across Spanish television during prime time, underlining the ability of top-level football to deliver large audiences for broadcasters and streaming platforms.
Other LaLiga fixtures add to DAZN’s momentum
Other matches are also contributing to DAZN’s strong start to the season. The Celta Vigo-Osasuna fixture attracted 62,000 viewers and a 0.7 per cent share of pay-TV viewing.
The figures highlight the strategic importance of live football for DAZN in Spain, where premium sports content remains one of the platform’s key tools for attracting and retaining subscribers.
DAZN shares LaLiga rights with Movistar Plus+
DAZN shares domestic LaLiga broadcasting rights with Telefónica-owned Movistar Plus+. Under the current arrangement, both operators generally show five matches per matchday during most rounds of the competition.
The strong audience generated by Barcelona’s opening fixture underlines the commercial value of LaLiga within Spain’s increasingly competitive pay-TV and streaming market.
With broadcasters and streaming platforms competing for sports audiences, premium live football continues to provide one of the strongest propositions for driving viewing, engagement and subscription demand.
